Last month, the NTTC held its 65th annual conference, and as part of the festivities, Jim Shaeffer, president and CEO of McKenzie Tank Lines, Inc., was elected as its new chairman of the board. The NTTC has been the leading voice of the tank truck industry for nearly 70 years, working to advance the standards for safe and sustainable transport while remaining a champion of safety and success in the tank truck community. As the new NTTC chairman, he’ll be taking the reins previously held by John (Hans) Schaupp.
Excitement has been palpable at FleetRisk Advisors lately, as we gear up for our annual User Group Meeting slated for June 18-19 in Atlanta. We’re looking forward to meeting with customers to discuss the state of the industry. The theme of this year’s invitation-only User Group Meeting is “The Power of Conversation & Remediation.” With that in mind, the meeting will serve as a forum for FleetRisk Advisors’ predictive analytics platform users to share their most effective driver retention, recruitment and remediation strategies. The meeting will also focus on new techniques to better leverage data to create safer fleets and happier drivers.
We’re thrilled to share with our readers that XTRA Lease, a trailer equipment rental and leasing provider, has renewed their commitment to equipping their fleet with Omnitracs’ trailer tracking products. We first collaborated with XTRA Lease in 2006 and they have since added our trailer tracking asset management system on nearly 50,000 trailers which include most of their dry van trailers. They also continue to offer trailer tracking as a free feature on their dry van rentals.
Regardless of a fleet’s size and profile, all carriers continually strive to improve operational efficiency in order to enhance productivity and generate additional revenue. If you have yet to unlock the power of in-cab navigation, I’d love to share some quick compelling results for your consideration. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of presenting at the ALK Transportation Technology Summit, and discussed how different fleets are utilizing CoPilot® Truck™ in-cab navigation technology as a cost-effective solution to reduce out-of-route miles, improve on-time delivery percentage, and keep administrative and fuel costs down.
For many in today’s transportation industry, “doing more with less” is a phrase that has become analogous to simply “doing business.” Given ongoing driver shortage and the economic climate, it is increasingly complex to operate a profitable trucking company. As a result, larger carriers are changing their processes to meet customers’ evolving needs, while smaller carriers are adapting their approach to support further growth—or in some cases—to survive.
