The Canadian ELD Mandate is coming, and Omnitracs remains committed to ensuring our customers are compliant once Canadian ELD enforcement is in full effect. Since the mandate was announced in 2019, we've been working diligently to support it and support the motor carriers, drivers, and enforcement personnel who will be affected. In the spirit of our support, we will be applying for third-party certification on devices we intend to make compliant, along with providing training and preparation materials to the industry. Rest assured, we will obtain certification and help you ensure you’re ready by the enforcement deadline.

From hosting webinars with leading compliance experts to share helpful resources and information on our EverythingELD webpage, we've strived to let you know you can rely on us. As a pioneer in the transportation technology industry, we will be there to educate your teams and ensure compliance for your operation — just as we always have. Our CEO, Ray Greer, says it best: “Our past success in the on-time transitioning of over 600,000 drivers to be compliant with the U.S. ELD Mandate is a testament to our ability to deliver and succeed.”

We have worked with Transport Canada since the early days of their aspirations for their own ELD regulations, and we have been actively involved with helping them formulate and streamline those regulations. Additionally, as a member of various associations, like the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and the Canadian Trucking Alliance, we can ensure that we are informing our customers of near real-time critical regulatory-related updates.

The mandate is intended to make Canadian roads safer and driver lives easier. Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, which have long been a reality in the commercial vehicle sector in both the U.S. and Canada, limit the hours commercial motor vehicle drivers can spend on the road in a given day, thereby preventing hazardous and potentially fatal accidents resulting from fatigued drivers behind the wheel.

The Canadian ELD Mandate simplifies the recording of a driver's required day-to-day Record of Duty Status (RODS) by moving the documentation from paper logs to electronic devices. As was the case with the U.S. ELD Mandate, the Canadian ELD Mandate does not change HOS regulations. It simply streamlines the RODS recording process, guaranteeing better accuracy and saving your teams time previously spent on manual logging.

Compliance has always been at the heart of our solutions. From our robust range of ELDs and HOS applications for your unique business needs to our expanded suite of enhanced video monitoring technology, helping drivers stay safe is how we define success. It is what has enabled us to be there for you for the long haul, serving your teams for over 30 years.

We are delighted to be with you every step of the way on your path to regulatory success in Canada and beyond. Keep checking in to our Road Ahead Blog for pertinent updates, and visit our EverythingELD page for helpful FAQs, resources, and information on the Canadian ELD Mandate.
