The 19th annual Great American Trucking Show has come to a close, and we’ve certainly had a blast these past few days! It’s been a phenomenal experience, and if you didn’t have the opportunity to go this year, we highly recommend you make plans to attend next year.

It’s amazing how much you can fit into a three-day schedule. But with more than 150 trucks on the showroom floor and 554 exhibitors on hand, it’s hard to really see it all.

Still, we had plenty of fun watching the three finalists of the Trucker Talent Search contest display their musical chops Friday on the Truckers News Stage, and seeing Jon Osburn receive his Lifetime Achievement award on Saturday was certainly special. We enjoyed meeting the mascot for Trucking Moves America Forward (TMAF) who was officially named Safety Sammy

But by far, the best part of the weekend came on Saturday, when we got the chance to announce the two winners of our Big Rig Buddies contest. And what a pair of winners we had this year!
We had entries pour in from all across the country — big rig buddies of all shapes and sizes, and some truly heartfelt stories. If you weren’t in on it originally, the contest was a way for drivers to help get their big rig buddies — dogs, cats, or any other pets that ride along — the recognition they deserve.
We asked truck drivers to send in a photo of their pet that keeps them company on long drives, as well as a little something about what makes them the best companion on the road.
Our panel of judges could only select two winners. The first is the Pampered Buddy and receives a $700 gift card to PetSmart. The second, the Fully Stocked Buddy, still receives a $300 gift card to PetSmart. And of course, they both get recognized as the top Big Rig Buddies in all the land. With over 50,000 registered attendees at the show, that’s quite a bit of recognition!
The contest got off to a fast start, with plenty of submissions coming in from around the country, but we had to narrow it down to two winners. It was tough, but our judges did their job, and we’re proud to announce that our grand prize winner is Michael and his dog Cody! The second place prize went to Warren and his two dogs Max and Pepper.

Cody loves to keep his owner Michael company while they’re putting in miles on the road. Cody was given to Michael’s mother three years ago for her birthday and when she passed away last year, Cody became Michael’s Big Rig Buddy. The pair is inseparable. An ambassador for the trucking industry, Cody loves the road and meeting new people. His under-bite smile and unconditional love keep Michael driving.

As for Max and Pepper, they keep owner Warren company every day. Max even prevented an accident in the truck once while Warren was sleeping. Another truck almost backed into Warren’s parked truck and Max honked the horn with his front paws, alerting the other driver and preventing an accident.

Getting to announce these two at the Great American Trucking Show was a treat, and we couldn’t be happier with our two winners. If your Big Rig Buddy didn’t make it to the winner’s podium this year, well, they probably still love you anyway, and that’s all that matters.
